Linux 携帯電話現る
Motorola is moving Linux and open source into the smart phone space with its new A780 handheld, featuring MontaVista Software's Linux operating system and now the open source Berkeley DB data manager, but analysts say Linux remains on hold in mobile phones because Microsoft, Palm, and Symbian operating systems still dominate the space.
9月14日に米国モトローラが Linux ベースの Mobile Phone A780 を発表しました。2004年第４四半期に出荷予定です。Linux のディストリビューションは組み込み Linux として有名な MontaVista Linux を採用し、データ管理には Sleepycat Software の Berkeley DBを採用しています。
A780 の目を見張るべき機能としては、

・1.3-megapixel embedded camera
・Streamed video playback with RealOne Player
