By the end of 2004 blogs had established themselves as a key part of online culture. Two surveys by the Pew Internet & American Life Project in November established new contours for the blogosphere and its popularity:
米ピュー・インターネット・アンド・アメリカン・ライフ・プロジェクトの調査したブログ利用実態の調査結果が２日発表された。それによると、インターネット・ユーザーのうち27％（約3240万人）がブログを読んでおり、7％（約840万人）が自分でも開設していることが分かった。
そのほかの主要な集計結果は
・57%が男性
・48%が30歳以下
・70%が自宅でのブロードバンドユーザー
・82%が6年に上のインターネット経験者
・42%が50000ドル以上の所得者
・39%が学卒
